it is super campy and it has a few solid fights, but the majority of the film is dull and dumb. it is a knockoff of enter the dragon and bloodsport, but somehow they made the story dumber and the dialogue worse. there is a ton of gibberish mythos that i assume is just there as fan service for people who played the video game. i didn't so i have no idea who these characters are and i'm not given much by the movie to get me to buy in. the only person in this who is even a decent actor is cary-hiroyuki tagawa, and he is playing it up quite a bit, but it fits the movie well. robin shou is clearly... read more

probably detract 2 stars if you weren't 12 years old and obsessed with mortal kombat back in '95. even speaking objectively it's kind of unbelievable that this didn't end up a total failure. i've said it before, and i'll say it again; give it another decade or so and people will have completely turned around on paul w.s. anderson. he gave us the first video-game based movie that was not only entertaining, but a straight up box office success. mayyyybe we should stop taking that for granted. read more
