thieves, insurance scammers, violent mercenaries. all cunts. i can't work out if this film was cheap or expensive. it's cheesy as hell but it passed the time. i can't be alone in thinking that pantucci was their attempt at a hudson? i can't remember the exact line but it definitely riffed on "game over man, game over!". meh. read

friday night potboiler/monster movie totally does what it says on the box, even if i can't help but think some more inventive set pieces would've helped set it apart s'more. i like the part where treat & famke are playing wave race with the tentacle monster and the subs read "cock it! [cocking]". read

if marie kondo came to my house, gun to my head, and made me toss out every movie in my 1000+ blu-ray collection that did not spark joy, admittedly, a lot would be thrown out. ...but not deep rising. this movie legitimately makes me happy. it's one of the few movies that i consider to be perfect saturday matinee material. it's got a great cast, all in max scenery chewing mode, and they're set loose in this madhouse of a movie. we've got mercenaries, torpedoes, a hijacked cruise ship, giant tentacle creatures from the depths(!), and some of the coolest gore effects you'll ever see. treat read

My quick rating - 6;2/10. Pretty good action/horror flick that gets a bit kooky but overall is pure popcorn fun. I do remember it being better the first go around but still not shabby 22 years later. read

Probably my 5th viewing. Always loved it, wish they did the obvious follow-up. Recently heard the plan was to have this be a lead in to King Kong. Too bad because with this team it could have been fun. The CGI here is pretty bad but it's a fun movie. read

Deep Rising follows the doomed maiden voyage of a ocean liner called the Argonautica, as it is attacked by a monster from the deep. To further complicate matters, it is target for a group of terrorists looking to strike it rich by breaking into the ships vaults, and also a con artist (Famke Janssen) who also has her eyes on the valuable jewels. Director Stephen Sommers has a lot going on within this movie, however most of it is bad, as we are subjected to a terrible and very dated script along with cliched, wafer thin characters that it impossible not to dislike. The special effects are good... read
