a bug's life is pixar's second film. it is the first pixar film i saw in theatres. back in '98 there was this movie and a very similar one called antz. i preferred the latter, as i found it a better movie and i love woody allen.
cut to almost 20 years later and i watched a bug's life again for perhaps the third or fourth time. i still really enjoy the flick (pun intended) but i still think antz is better. the last time i saw antz: in the theatre. maybe if i watch it again i will find this one better?
when not comparing the two i will say that this movie is beautiful to look at, it's funny, it's exciting and it never ever bores. it's got great characters, a solid script and a fantastic cast.
what brings the film down is it's somewhat generic story structure and message. this type of film has been done a thousand times before it and a thousand times since. it's an unoriginal story done in an original way. after the ingenious toy story them folks at pixar should of aimed higher.
i like this film still to this day, if not more than i once did but it still feels like lesser pixar or disney lite and when i watch pixar films i want more. i know that all their films can't be winners but their second film out of the gate should of soared higher than this one did...
again, still a good film though...
