after a trio of amazing films, john mctiernan faltered with medicine man. while not a bad film it wasn't a great one either; more dramatic than his previous work but also not as well put together. and made all the worse by following three masterpieces of cinematic history. so when last action hero was announced as his next film, things were looking good. mctiernan would be reunited with schwarzenegger in a big budget action film (that he has proven so adept at) witha script by shane black (of lethal weapon fame). how could it falter? it seemed like a guaranteed hit. but there was a slight read more

the writing's pretty clever, but structurally it's walking on crutches. there are some genuinely laugh out loud lines in it, so as a comedy in disguise it's hitting nails. but if jack slater iv was an actual stand-alone movie i figure it'd be pretty run of the mill. breaking through the fourth wall of a mediocre movie doesn't negate the fact it's mediocre. read more

action director john mctiernan was at the peak of his career after blockbuster blockbusters such as predator (1987) , die hard (1988) and the hunt for red october (1990) , and with this last action hero (1993) he stuck himself a bit. the dragon with the action genre. it's not a bad movie, but this was one of his lesser movies. in 2003, the director got caught up in a wiretapping scandal with famous consequences and his career was almost over. synopsis: jack slater ( arnold schwarzenegger ) is the hero of the silver screen. his biggest fan danny ( austin o'brien ) gets a magical movie ticket... read more
