it's like the original except it's the looney tunes version. this transposing is totally bizarre. the prequel elements / killer's backstory is straight out of silent night, deadly night (1984) but if it were made by a disney-type warped by lsd and scroungy late-night strip-clubs. whom was like a strange crusty stoner uncle who did this kind of fucked-up comic strip - that is; black christmas (2006). it's funny as hell, but also disturbing in a slapstick gross-out way. i was remarking to a friend after having seen the original (1974) about how it didn't go as expected and constantly surprised... read

is it a sequel? is it a remake? its... neither, actually, and all the better for it. especially considering how its a genre-film that came out in an age of treading lightly. ive only ever seen bob clarks black christmas once (and it is due for a revisit), but comparing the two would be missing the point altogether. what youve got here is the will & skill to carve out a path of its own, and i am calling “grinch” on the fact that it isnt considered a moderate cult favorite. maybe the cast is a bit of an annoyance (pre-fame mew aside), but the way theyre disposed of is just as brutally hard and... read
