i'm glad i rewatched the phantom because it gives me an excuse to talk about a very specific weird childhood thing. see because all i can think of when i see billy zane in his purple bodysuit is purno de purno, which was this super crummy amiga 2000-animated dutch cartoon loaded with sexual innuendo that was part of a children's television programming block. i mean it's cool that the dutch are so open about sex and all, and my parents are super liberal so it was never a big deal but still check that crazy ass porno cartoon out lol. as for this actual movie? holds up better than i woulda read more

there was three major pulp hero flicks in the 90's- the shadow, the rocketeer, and the phantom. the rocketeer is probably the most respectable- but it's also the slowest and driest- and it has nazis and a dude wearing a rocket pack. almost as if in response, the phantom has pirates and a dude wearing purple tights. who can even be bothered to remember the shadow's inexplicable facial prosthetics at this point? i love the phantom. a jungle-based hero who rides a horse named hero, has a pet wolf named devil, wears purple tights, has a thing for skulls, and has his arrival ominously preceded by... read more
