the last time i watched cyborg i'd just started my jcvd-athon and i ended up ranking it pretty much at the bottom just above universal soldier. so i figured it needed reassessing as a pyun movie, in the form of slinger, pyun's long-awaited(?) director's cut that adds a bunch of narration (sideshow bob shudder), and work-print footage that in a lot of cases is just there to make inconsequential scenes a split second longer. i'm probably not in the best position to compare the two cuts, but my feeling after having seen the (?)extended(?) version (that is a couple minutes shorter?) is pretty much exactly how i remember the theatrical one. there are some truly great-looking shots and interesting characters in theory, but it is still an absolute mess of a movie that isn't helped by having a non-emoting jcvd at the center of it all. i don't know why i thought watching a director's cut would fix my issues with it because i can't remember any instance when that has ever been the case.
