this film will break your heart into pieces and then fix it. but just a bit. and leave you with a gaping hole in your chest. it is probably cuaróns best film and the way he himself positions the camera and moves it is unique. in every shot there are hundreds of tiny little side stories, while the frame itself is almost empty. often you only hear stuff via the surround sound and have to follow with your ears while your eyes scan the absolutely stunning imagery. oh, and of course there are several one-takes. loads of them. every one of them unique and filled with its own intricacies. while the... read more

i cant rate this. i cant be objective about this movie. once we got to the birth scene, we had to stop. it was too personal for us and we couldnt continue. it took weeks for us to get the courage to finish.  everything leading up to that scene was beautiful. the acting, the cinematography, the editing, the script. it was moving and engaging while taking you on the journey of cleo.  i have no clue how im going to rank this. read more

‪i hate how this film focused way too much on the sets and cinematography and way too little on character development. most characters were single-layered and some didn't even contribute to the plot at all. could've easily been a masterwork with a few multidimensional characters.‬ read more

I feel bad that I didn't enjoy this movie because it makes me feel unsophisticated but it just didn't really capture me. I was fine with the slow pacing and slice-of-life story telling (in fact the quiet moments were my favorite parts) but overall it was probably just a little too real for me. The parts about men being emotionally abusive reminded me of Fences, both movies kind of had a "life goes on" perspective which rather than being hopeful made me feel hopeless. Film mediocre e pretenzioso. Vuole usare il bianco e nero per impressionare il pubblico ma ,per me, non ci riesce proprio. L'unica cosa che si salva in tutto il film è l'attrice protagonista nella sua "semplicità", infatti, trasmette parecchie emozioni (una stella/5 è stata riservata prorpio a lei, nel conteggio finale). Anche le stesse inquadrature non trasmettono nulla ma sembrano così statiche, studiate prima e ti accorgi subito che tecnica ha usato il direttore della fotografia.
