when i saw toy story 3 in theatres i was somewhat disappointed. it didn't feel as fresh as the others and to me lotso was basically the same character as the prospector. i honestly didn't see why everyone raved about this film.
so having just finished parts one and two i was ready to watch three again and revaluate it. would it be better (or possibly worse) than i remembered? would i see why everyone was enamoured with this film? well i pushed play, watched all 103 minutes of it and formed my opinion.
to begin with, toy story 3 is a great movie. a really great movie. it was, on my second viewing, better than i remember it. it really packed an emotional wallop. it looked amazing and it was exciting and funny. was it as good as part two? no. part one? no. but it sure comes close. very close.
the problems with this film are few and far between but they do exist. firstly, lotso is the prospector, plain and simple. second, the originality of the toy story idea (and the way certain things happen) is kinda unoriginal in it's execution (buzz thinking he's a space ranger again?). thirdly, the humour isn't as strong as the first two parts. did i mention lotso is basically the bad guy from part two, the prospector? just in pink fur...
but still, even with these flaws (and a few minor other ones), toy story 3 is a fantastic movie that will please kids and adults of all ages, animation fans, toy story fans, pixar fans, disney fans, movie fans, and really anyone who likes to laugh, cry and suspend their disbelief for an hour or two.
toy story: a fantastic trilogy if ever there was one.
