i was kind of let down by the lack of character depth or even suspense here. despite an interesting premise it never boiled over into unnerving conflict or maybe i'm just a desensitized puppy. even if it's an older movie i just have to say that in that aspect it doesn't really hold up for me. i was halfway involved because of bette davis' jarring presence i guess, but at 135 minutes it would have been nice to have found more to latch on to. in the end they're just two shitty brats who deserved each other. read

I really liked this one. I haven't seen many Bette Davis movies as yet but this performance is the best so far and got her an Academy nomination for Best Actress that year but she didn't win unfortunately. Joan Crawford was also good as her embattled sister. Robert Aldrich has created a visually stunning film here and also went on to direct one of my favourites in " The Dirty Dozen". read

In this hothouse a lifelong read
