hoop-tober 2.0: film 30 *********************************************************************** well there is very little to like about this movie. i saw it a few times on tv when i was younger and never really liked it that much. watching it again today i can see why. because it sucks, big time. repeating the same crap storyline that made no sense in part 2, part 3 of poltergeist takes two characters from the first two and leaves everyone else out. instead we get tom skerritt and nancy allen and the little girl from the first one. this time we get an apartment building instead of a house. this time we get a lame kane who is nowhere near as frightening as the kane from number 2. this time we get god awful acting and cheesy effects (there are a few good ones in there). this time we get a story that is derivative, boring and stupid. the biggest issue with this film is that it is boring. so boring. it also makes no sense and feels nothing like the original. the story and the poltergeist have nothing to do with the original and the poltergeist acts nothing like the first film. really, if heather o'rourke wasn't in this you would think it wasn't a poltergeist movie. i just don't understand how the producers thought this was a good way to go with the sequels. how did a house built on top of a cemetery turn into a cult leader that stalks a little girl? and the acting is just plain bad. tom skerritt is great and lara flynn boyle in a very early role shows a lot of promise but everyone else sucks. the psychiatrist is the worst offender here with some of the worst psychiatry i have ever seen. after all he sees and witnesses first hand he continually tells people that carol-ann is using mass hypnosis to trick people. he gets a phone call from someone and just ups and leaves to harass carol-ann. come on, this is retarded. the scene in the garage with the frozen cars, retarded. the whole ending with the amulet and tangina leading kane into the light, retarded. the way nancy allen's character flip flops between her feelings, retarded. the way she and skerritt are so dependent on tangina after knowing her for no more than an hour, retarded. the whole movie is retarded and just plain sucks. last points to be made before i leave this review and leave this film and move onto something better: - nancy allen: i'm up in the air on whether she is a good actress or not. she sucks here so bad. - tom skerritt: is ethan hawke turning into him because they look pretty much the same? - what a sad way for heather o'rourke to leave this world. this is the last thing she did and it's a tarnish on her legacy. i'm done, i can't write anymore about this utter disappointment. bye. production design: 6 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 1 out of 10 originality: 3 out of 10 costumes: 6 out of 10 directing: 5 out of 10 editing: 6 out of 10 acting: 5 out of 10 music: 6 out of 10 script: 3 out of 10 47/100
