i liked the limey a lot when i saw it in theatres. this time out i didn't like it. no siree bob, this time i fucking loved it. i was actually amazed at how good this was and it now sits at the top of the list of soderbergh's films (although i still have 22 more to go). telling the story of a man, a criminal, hell bent on revenge for the death of his daughter we are witness to a movie that is unlike anything else you have ever seen, a movie that is so perfectly done its unfathomable to think otherwise and a movie that pretty much made terrence stamp a modern day legend and icon. i can barely,... read more

for a directorial debut, the limey is an okay first step. it has a little bit of story, a couple name actors, and a while bunch of flashy editing to get studios to take notice and give the director a shot. there is just one problem. this isn't soderbergh's first film, he was already a well established director by the time he made the limey. for a film from an experienced director with some studio backing, the limey is a failure. the performances are mostly mediocre and the flashy, and often obnoxious, editing does little to prop up a mediocre story beyond yelling "look at me!" i guess it is... read more

If I hated someone. Really hated them. Like, they were my enemy, and I wanted them to truly suffer, I would force them to watch this film. Watching paint dry would be boring, but it wouldn't hurt. Watching this travesty is more akin to having a needle slowly (very slowly) forced into one's eye.

It jumps back and forth in time, constantly, usually only a few minutes, so that what ought to be a simple, straightforward scene is instead comprised of nonsensical snippets: The protagonist arrives at the door and asks for a man. The protagonist is riding in a cab. The protagonist is on a... read more

This was an interesting one and very different from what I expected it to be like. It's very unlike a lot of Soderbergh's stuff I have seen so far. The story is simple, Terence Stamp finds out his daughter has died and is looking for some simple revenge on who he feels is at fault for it all. The real star of the show though other than Stamp, is the editing. The film almost seems to exist more an an editing exercise than anything else. Conversations spiced over footage from things from scenes before or after the events of the conversations taking place. Many scenes were there is no audible... read more

gosto dessas figuras inglesas que falam bonito e vivem com raiva. e tem algo de desconcertante no tanto que o terrence stamp parece meu pai. i like these british characters who have proper speach and live angry. and my father looks unsettlingly like terrence stamp. read more

Thinking about why this left me a bit cold and I think it's the idea that Wilson is a mysterious figure. "I can't understand what he's saying but I know what he means" is what Elaine says about him, or something along those lines. Being a Limey myself, I do understand Wilson, and as a result he's he feels less mysterious than he does opaque, I don't mind a character having a one track mind or a tropey revenge motivation, but there's a level where this didn't really work because Stamp's character doesn't feel that deep, and tries to fill that void with dry old school British chit chat and read more
