this was my first kurosawa movie, it was incredibly thought provocative and i am still thinking about it even after two days, loved the storytelling technique used here. 8.5/10 read more

commoner: but is there anyone who's really good? maybe goodness is just make-believe.priest: what a frightening...commoner: man just wants to forget the bad stuff, and believe in the made-up good stuff. it's easier that way. just magnificent this is by far one of the best movies i have ever seen. the concept of "justice" and what truth actually is, is portrayed so carefully. even in the end the viewers are unsure of what it actually is, except to have hope. nothing has a clear meaning. and the dialogues. i would quote everything if i had the patience. read more

i'm not the hugest fan of kurosawa but i understand the praise of his other works i have seen but it's just misogynistic story telling in a format that while being influential mostly inspired bland/forgettable works of fiction. the set designs outside "memories" looks so cheap while the other scenes are eyesores of badly shot whiteness. i know it's before he was well known world-wide with a larger budget but stray dog didn't have this problem. i never liked this story telling format anywhere in fiction since it was mainly used to make sometimes fun but off character episodes of animated tv... read more
