well this was one heck of a long film. i know it was originally a mini series but i decided to give it a crack as a film. i dont think ive ever watched something that had so many long winded speeches or so much pontificating. “by god well win this war, but if we dont well not win it as men, free men, yadda yadda”. if they spent more time fighting instead of talking then the way may have been over quicker. oh and the beards, they were some special beards. on the plus side it is quite the film. set pieces and costumes are flawless. the acting is incredible. the fights (when they happened) are... read more

A faithful recreation of the bloody Battle that proved the turning point in the American Civil War (and the events leading to it), talky but historically rigorous adaptation of Michael Shaara's historical novel was originally conceived as a TV miniseries but was given a theatrical release after producer Ted Turner was impressed by the material. Production was able to take advantage of many Civil War reenactors who volunteered to participate to the the battle scenes. read more
