just wish they had made more out of the book which this film is based on. i love the agent-aloysius-pendergast-book-series and this being the first entry in the series by douglas preston and lincoln child could have been a great opportunity for a whole series of movies - even tv features like the tom-selleck-cop-series i don't recall the name now. but pendergast who is the lead in the book - again: around him the whole series of now more than 15 books (in 2019) is built - was totally left out of the script ?!!?? (i just watched the movie today because i had finished the latest book last weekend and kind of remembered that pendergast did not appear in the movie version back in the days ... but on the other side i did not trust my memories 100%. so rewatch and boom...)
so what the fxxx was that about...the movie comes along as the standard monster-in-a-dark-place-movie which can be seen dozens of times especially in the 90s (and most of the time better than here)....
folks - do me a favour - read the book or at least get the audiobook version. it's way more satisfying and the 2nd book is a direct sequel to the things that went down in "relic" ... from there on it's always a new case per book but they are all somehow interconnected for the characters grow and you get to know them and there even are ( i think 2) trilogys in the series that really deserve a closer look.
the audiobook is much more entertaining and the movie happens right in your brain when you listen to these novels...so forget about the relic (movie)!
