brian de palma is a master of a certain kind of film. forget his hollywood stuff like mission to mars, snake eyes, even scarface. those films aren't what make de palma great. no. what makes him great are his de palma films like femme fatale, blow out, raising cain and phantom of the paradise. i say de palma films because when left to his own devices, without studio interference, de palma delivers a certian kind of film. almost always it's hitchcockian in tone, it has elaborate camera set ups and it always comes full of twists and mcguffins. dressed to kill is one of the best examples of this.... read more

scavenger hunt 75 11. watch a movie featuring a psychiatrist/psychologist. that first half hour or so is a bit of a task to sit through, thankfully the following hour picks up and gives the viewer that hitchcockian sleaze de palma does best. while michael caine is, as always, wonderful in his role, nancy allen is easily the highlight of this film. plenty of folk have already noted the film's misinformed view of transgender people, which is more than fair, as that aspect is laughably bad. however, i don't really feel i can probably articulate my feelings on that matter, so i just won't bother... read more

for me, the film was an average film. i liked what the director tried to shoot in some scenes. of course there is an effect problem of withdrawing in the 80s. in some scenes, shooting errors are very noticeable. it turned out on a story-by-project basis. it was more or less surprising. maybe i don't know that i'm watching a lot of movies of this genre or reading a book like this. but at least i had the pleasure of looking. he could manipulate the main character more deeply. written by influenced by psycho. the latest mental hospital idea gave the original ambience. unfortunately i didn't get... read more
