Of course, they wanted a sequel... they always do. And you know what? It's not that bad. Quite the opposite, it's a pretty solid flick. It's just... Well, let's just say there are some problems with it.
First thing first - Mr. Spielberg wasn't there anymore. And without his signature E.T.-like atmosphere? It's like half of the magic disappeared. Second - no matter how you look at it, it feels forced. Like really, REALLY forced. Even though Mark Victor and Michael Grais were still there, they were unable to come up with anything interesting. Anything special to remember. So, as the result, they just tried to drop yet another generic boogeyman.
Sure, Heather O'Rourke helped a lot. She and her character, together with Julien Beck (who fits his character really, REALLY well), totally helped with the fact that human form of Henry Kane was not what we all wanted from Poltergeist II. And yet...
Well, that's the thing about Poltergeist II. Nobody asked for it. And even though it wasn't nearly as bad as Gremlins II, for example... it's hard not to notice that it struggled with the fact that even its creators were unable to find a reason for it to exist.
