most of the reviews i've read have claimed that this is a depressing film. though, i can understand their reasoning for such claims, the film rather showed me future and life.
ethereal, dreamy, and darkly twisted; in combination with its great music and non-linear storytelling which was almost experimental and definitely arthouse, the film is truly intriguing and intricately beautiful.
as an enthusiast for nonlinear storytelling, myself, i was able to enjoy and comprehend the movie on first viewing. though, to use the adjective "enjoy" would certainly be debatable for this film. if you really focused on the movie, it's just easy to understand and follow the events as they had occured.
as i've claimed, despite the controversial and gloomy topics or aspects surrounding the film, this showed me more life and future than depression. the film seemed more like a collection of memories rather than a story awaiting for something climactic. as someone, myself, who had experience psychotic depression, suicidal tendencies, and the like during high school and before that, this is just a memory now of what i've been through. i did experience and understand the dark gloom of the film. though, after the film had ended, i am reborn and free again. actually, i've been having some doubts and anxieties these past few days again, but after watching this film, i've remembered who i am. the one who had been through death and hell, but still always chose life, the future, always moving forward.
i am glad that i was not able to watch this film during high school. i am glad that i finally left high school. i am glad that i was able to not just live, but to thrive as well. i am so glad for growing up.
