Dune

The movie has the same problem most other movies have when adapting a book. They have to cut to much... I haven't read the book/books but I can tell there was a problem adapting it in a 2 hour 30 min movie format. A lot of scenes feels very rushed, we are jumping from place to place nonstop and characters have conversations that feel like they should be important/impactful but they have no build up and almost feel like they came out of nowhere in the context that we are at that time. Read all the books and loved them. Seen every adaptation, universally terrible or at best mediocre. This is the finest to-date, though ultimately flatters to deceive. The cinematography is Villeneuve gloriously in his element and the visuals are dazzling, but such a sweeping universe is difficult without massive screeds of exposition. This sits naturally on paper, though it translates poorly to screen.
