overlord (2018) was a decent movie that i had a ton of fun, from start to finish this film knew what it wanted to do and succeeded. as soon as i finished watching this movie, i wanted to experience it again. i really liked this movie but it could have been better. read more

this is how you make a fun, pulpy film. the first half is a solid wwii movie that is visceral enough to be effective and draw the viewer into the chaos of war. the second half becomes an over the top action/monster movie. it is grotesque and violent, which is exactly what it needs to be to make it work. anything more restrained would not have worked at all. wyatt russell is definitely the standout of this film. i didnt realized going in that he is kurt russells son, but there were several moments here that he channels his father and brings that charisma and intensity. he can definitely have a... read more

a good half hour in a 110 minute movie isn't ideal, but if there's one thing this movie gets right it's being smart enough to backload all the fun. i'll be honest 45 minutes in i was on the brink of a nap but then they finally get out of that house and shit starts building towards a climax that delivers what i liked about the trailer. very pleased to report that wyatt russell sounds extremely like papa kurt when he gets all snarly. read more

between the slow build, the stomach-churningly creative gore, and the fact that co-lead wyatt russell is the spitting image of his dad (kurt) in the 1980's... overlord is much less call of duty: zombies - the movie, and more like the john carpenter flick we never knew we always wanted. there was something so gosh darn satisfying about seeing a russell back in the familiar trappings of a messy, pulpy, blood-n-guts flick. everytime wyatt got in a bad guy's face and started growling out violent ultimatums, i had a big dumb grin on my face. he embodies that effortless badassery that his dad read more

ww2 horror with evil nazi experiments. we get to see lots of nazis die and that's always great. the intro blows me away every time i watch it. it's as intense as any battle scene in any actual war move. ok... maybe that's a stretch but the sound design is mind blowingly good. and then... it's just kinda slow burn cool guy war stuff until it gets to the insane nazi experiments and then... well yeah that's the whole movie. this is grade a premium b horror. yep. read more

This one was a funny sort of film to watch, it had occasional thrilling action. The action slowed down after about 20 mins then it got a bit silly. I can imagine the movie might have a bit of a cult following for the zombie/war lovers but I have seen similar in other movies. Its just under 2 hours also but most people should get something out of it. read more

Overlord is a war movie with a strong element of horror directed by Julius Avery that follows the fortunes of a small group of paratroopers that are tasked with destroying a Nazi radio tower located in a church. Losing half of their unit in the skies before even putting a foot on the ground, the movie opens with a quite thrilling and brutal airborne sequence. After landing, the group must navigate land mines, avoid hunting dogs, and scattered pockets of German soldiers. Historical events and zombies? Fuck yeah! Best part? It's not that unrealistic. The Nazis did do human experiments, details publicly unknown, so they might have experimented on a serum that brings people back to life. Is it far fetched? Sure. Unrealistic?
