[93] brian de palma at his finest and most satirical. busting at the belt with style and nuanced themes of the hollywood/porn industry and the blurred line between the two. excels because it completely understands what it is and embraces it. an immense thrill from start to finish. weirdo, so many weird people! i should never have moved to hollywood! fucking freaky actors, that's what there is here. masochistic directors! body double consists of a relatively standard plot that manages to be near perfect, thanks to de palma's eccentricity and sense of aesthetic. his "fuck you" to read more

i haven't seen this movie in almost 4 years now and i had a recollection of liking it more back in 2013 than i had ever thought i had before. before that viewing i had thought this to be a weak and pretty bad de palma flick. so i was getting ready to review this film (based ona 4 year old memory) when i went on my movie database (delicious library) and saw that i rated this film 2 stars which means i hadn't liked it back then and my memory hasn't served me well. so i readjusted the score to accurately reflect my 2 star rating (no half stars on the database) and thus i will review accordingly.... read more

52 years in 52 weeks (2018) year 1984 murderers drive ford broncos. this is the strangest de palma flick ive seen so far. its a homage to rear window, mixed with sleaze (in this case porn), and features a frankie does hollywood music video. the camerawork is fantastic. the score is done by de palmas long contributor, pino donaggio, and is probably my favorite of his. the main theme is just so cool and sexy. in general, this is just a really fun film. read more
