the fight choreography is excellent and that's what you came for. unfortunately, everything else is thoroughly mediocre. the story is thin, the transitions awkward, and the stakes are functionally nonexistent. there is never a moment when it feels like bruce lee is even in any sort of danger. he effortlessly takes down huge crowds of trained fighters in this world where people seem to constantly beat each other to death and nobody really cares. even when the bad guy pulls out a sword, it still feels like bruce lee is the lakers playing a middle school team. still almost half of the film is... read

chen zhen likes to kick, and yell, and thwack motherfuckers with nunchucks. the image we have of bruce lee as a cinematic icon started here. much in the same way that most of james bond's iconic elements were introduced in his sophomore outing, the same thing happens here. bruce taking on a roomful of baddies, nunchucks in hand, doing his kung-fu yells and such? entirely absent in the big boss, but on full display in fist of fury. in fact, this action royale gets doled out in the first act of the film. which is an good way to secure the viewer's attention, earning plenty of good will to carry... read
