film #6 of hoop-tober 2.0 ju-on: the grudge helped launch takashi shimizu's j-horror franchise to new heights. the third film in the series and the first to be theatrically released, ju-on is the best known and (deservedly) the most highly-regarded of shimizu's original japanese-language entries in the series. the story is well-plotted out and takes some interesting narrative turns, thanks in part to shimizu's script jumping around the timeline in order to reveal plot elements only when it's best for the story to do so. megumi okina makes an affable lead in rika, the caretaker who stumbles... read more

I find ghost movies really boring but this had a great cast. (The man from versus. He is so cute but only in the beginning.) I didnt really get anything from this but at least I didnt see anything to make me feel bad for making the grudge sound to stim p much my entire life. Child and animal death implied?/ Mostly them just showing up as a ghost. Nothing really happens. The only scary part is like the first five seconds. read more
