while it's not as iconic and as deeply engrossing as the fugitive, u.s. marshals is the quintessential matinee thriller. it's better than average, has a good story, excellent performances, and by all accounts is a pretty good movie. it's got that snappy energy you feel from watching a car chase but throughout the whole film. it clicks along at a fairly relentless pace, letting jones fire off one-liners and giving snipes his share of crazy action beats all without any narrative excess.
there's still something about this movie that keeps it from a higher score, though i couldn't tell you what it is. i reckon it's not what it's lacking, but that the caliber of the actors and the material may have benefitted from more inspired direction. so, there's hardly anything wrong with u.s. marshals, it's here to entertain and it does its job- but it does so in a truly workmanlike fashion. i always seriously enjoy this movie nonetheless.
