oh, during the quarantine you're all watching contagion? watch this film about a pandemic of space vampires, you cowards! i don't think i had ever watched this film all the way through, but i got ahold of a fanedit called "the web of destiny" cut, and holy hell... it...was...awesome. i've read that the original theatrical cut of this was 101 minutes, but that the european version (available on video) runs 116. it contains more nudity, violence, and much more scene-setting and exposition in the front of the film. this fanedit was from that 116 min version, but with 10 minutes tightened up for... read

Well I sure did enjoy this. I didn't know what to expect really. I was watching it because it seemed interesting enough and is a Tobe Hooper film.
I am beyond glad I watched it, honestly. I was blown away by it. How weird and different it was. It very much felt like a vampire type film, as they do mention it in the film itself. But I just thought it was a really interesting and cool concept. The effects were pretty good and well done as most 80s effects are.
As a whole this was just a really great film. It gives you a tiny bit of space spoops, and then reinvents the vampire legend in a cool... read

i,m pretty sure the only thing most people will remember about this movie is Melinda Mays tits, considering she spends a good portion of it completely naked. if nothing else, it probably kept teenage boys happy.
not sure why it got so much hate back then as its a pretty decent movie that moves at a good pace. it has a bit of everything, space vampires, zombies, naked women and of course, Patrick Stewart before he became a starship captain read

birth year challenge #7 hooptober 5 #27 watched on arrow video blu-ray. an uneven movie for me, and a tale of two halves. the first half was super fun, but the second half, or well, the movie after patrick stewart gets a shot, is just really not that good. this movie tries too much to blend aliens, vampires, and zombies. the third act was just not very good to me. the first act was super fun though. i thought the idea of going into space dracula's shit was cool and the special effects were very good. mathilda may and her, to kinda quote another horror movie, "stupendous tits" killing thirsty... read

good lord this movie is fucking bizarre. the concept, the casting, the story, the effects. i love it, of course, but still. what the heck? cannon films apparently sunk $25 million into this movie, but they couldn't cast a more bankable lead than steve railsback? i mean, i love the dude, but he's a weird choice of a lead in this. his scenery chewing here should be stuff of legend. "she's a masochist- an extreme masochist! she wants me to force the answers out of her!" oh lordy. i was nearly in stitches. not to mention, his texan vibe clashes with the dour seriousness of the english cast. he... read

Space vampire zombies...well, they certainly went all in on it - I'll give them that. The make-up, prosthetics, and practical effects were the highlight of the film, and even with the convoluted plot the film is still fairly enjoyable. read

31 days of Halloween 2021 movie 42Another 80s movie I avoided like the plague. I was right. It's a Cannon Golan and Globus thing. Even as a kid you knew they were terrible.Steve Railsback aka NOT Tommy Lee Jones chases a space vampire with perfect breasts. Featuring a not completely bald Patrick Stewart. My favorite line was when Steven Railsback asked about the "ship" to which the other guy goes "what ship?" he clarifies about the spaceship and the guy is like "oh, that ship". Because a giant 2 mile spaceship above Earth happens all the time. read

film #30 of hoop-tober 2.0 lifeforce is a great idea for a film that fails in the story execution. tobe hooper's sci-fi horror flick has some great special effects and an effective concept of vampires as energy-draining space creatures, but there's just too much goofiness to take seriously. foremost among those elements is the idea that protagonist tom carlsen, played by steve railsback as if he was honey-glazed, has a psychic link to mathilda may's female vampire. while an interesting idea, it mostly serves to provide clunky exposition and to muddle carlson's motives which just drags down... read

okay, phew, finally made it through, but again not without nodding off a few times. what we've got here is a pretty insane movie tanked by a slew of excruciatingly boring characters. could have used someone more fun than steve railsback to offset the 3 stuffy british dudes you've already got populating 90% of the scenes. sweet fx & crazy ambitious but someone forgot to put a likeable presence at the center of it. read

part of obligatory october of horror sci-fi horror directed by tobe hooper? on paper, that should be rad. but... nah. it's tedious as hell to get through for a story that just doesn't deliver on anything other than wasted potential and bad scares. read
