Review of A Quiet Place

Overall Rating
i was underwhelmed. there is so much i can suspend my disbelief. aqp was not spectacular or scary enough to help with that. there is a difference between finding plot holes / nitpicking a movie and the setting and plot being built with increasingly shoddy pieces. by the time the girl discovered the reasonably obvious weakness that (a) made sense yet seemed to not have been discovered even by accident before most of the population died, (b) was telegraphed for half the movie, and (c) had been experienced by her before, but juuuust not in time to prevent her father's extremely melodramatic and kinda inexplicable sacrifice... anyway, by the time that she discovered the weakness, the movie was playing jenga. every good thing the movie did was undone by eyerolling. sound design was praised, but i thought it merely did what it had to, this being the conceit of the whole fuckin' thing. side note: while going silent while in the pov of the deaf character was nice, it did highlight the fact that it was unlikely she managed to avoid making any noise in an environment that wasn't exactly soundproofed in any way. jenga.
