Review of The Osterman Weekend

Overall Rating
i used to watch this movie religiously when it played on tv when i was a kid. i enjoyed it a lot and starred rutger hauer from blade runner and ladyhawke, john hurt from alien and craig t. nelson from coach and poltergeist. it was action packed and exciting. what was there not to like. when it was finally released on dvd i was stoked although it seemed to always cost an arm and a leg and so i never purchased it. but a few weeks ago i was out shopping and saw it for five bucks. five bukcs! five bucks for the osterman weekend? it was a no brainer in regards to purchasing it. a few days (or weeks later) i popped it into my player and relived a few scattered memories and created some new ones. i surprisingly remember the story quite well and i remember a lot of scenes from the film but there are also things i didn't remember and probably had never scene due to watching an edited, television safe version in the past. mainly i am talking about the ample amount of boobs that make an appearance in this film. but besides my nostalgic love for this film how does it hold up today? is it any good? and the answer to that is an astounding yes. the acting of course, is fantastic by everyone, the direction is solid, the story intriguing, the plot thrilling, the action exciting, the women sexy, the editing taut, the music thrilling. if you hadn't seen this film before it would keep you guessing at what comes next and it builds nicely to an exciting and action packed climax. i have read somewhere that this film was plagued with problems and never came together in the end. i don't see that at all when i watch. rather i see a well constructed and well made 80's thriller with a great cast and a great director. i love it when a movie you remember from your past doesn't disappoint. production design: 8 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 8 out of 10 originality: 8 out of 10 costumes: 8 out of 10 directing: 8 out of 10 editing: 7 out of 10 acting: 9 out of 10 music: 8 out of 10 script: 8 out of 10 80/100
