So... another Disney's attraction turned into a movie, huh? And you know what? Jungle Cruise is EXACTLY what you may expect. It's a very typical Disney movie, similar to what we've seen in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean. Sure, we've got Rock instead of Johnny Depp, but still, the template is exactly the same. In other words, you won't see any surprises here. Not a single one. It's THE most typical Disney movie you can ever imagine. But.
See, personally, I grew up with novels by authors like Jules Verne, Robert Louis Stevenson and H. Rider Haggard. And when it was about movies? It was something like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I was totally in love with those incredible adventures. The stories that told us about just how many mysteries there are in our world, how many ancient secrets, deadly traps and undiscovered places. Unfortunately, nowadays we live in times when people can explore our planet just by sitting on their butts and scrolling through Google Maps. The entire motif of ancient mysteries is no longer popular.
No, seriously, you can barely find a new story about the explorers anymore. The feeling that there's more in this world than meets the eye? The atmosphere of the great unknown? It's no longer there. And personally, I miss it very much. Guess what? That's exactly where Jungle Cruise comes in. See, this movie? It manages to be both very progressive by promoting the right values, and... old school. In other words, Emily Blunt's character takes most of the spotlight here with her strong personality and “go, women!” approach to inspire the girls all over the world, but at the same time, we've got that certain atmosphere from the old times. The atmosphere of the great adventure.
The ancient ruins, the deadly curses, the dangers of the jungle, it's all here. And honestly, I've enjoyed all that very much. It's not like Jungle Cruise is a groundbreaking movie or something. Exactly the opposite. Like I said, it's the most generic Disney movie you can ever imagine. And it's not like there can't be better movie. It's really easy to do better than this. But the thing is – there's nothing else on market right now. And without an alternative? I'd say this movie will do. I'm not sure that I'll want to see it again soon but I totally don't regret seeing it once. It was a really cute and charming experience. So... yeah. You love the adventures and don't mind Disney's usual approach? I'd say go for it. Just make sure not to expect anything special. Because you won't find it here.
