greg mclean directed the pretty great wolf creek so i was pretty excited for this one. killer crocs in the outback? sign me up...
the first time i watched this i had just seen avatar and i was shocked, surprised and happy to see sam worthington. this time when i watched it i was over him as many a craptastic movie was released starring ol' sammy boy.
but, back to the movie itself...
pretty decent film. no need for a plot synopsis as it's pretty generic horror stuff. tourists in the outback get trapped by a killer croc. that's it, and for something like this to work, it has to be done right.
mclean pretty much nails it. sure, we've seen this scenario a thousand times before, sure there is nothing new here but still it is done better than most. rogue tries to be a classic monster movie and not a cheapo modern day film. it's more jaws than anaconda.
the cast delivers, the action delivers, the horror delivers. the build up to the horror works really well, the action is taught and tight and terrific, the cinematography is very pretty, the pacing is spot on, the directing is a1.
when it comes down to it, rogue is a great little horror flick sure to please horror aficionado's. it's not the most original film but it's not trying to be. all it wants to do is take you on a ride and entertain you. it does that really well and i'd see it a third with no hesitation.
