the first few segments are a little dull but they build well. the framing device is pretty good and the final story is great. they knew where to use their best talent and michael redgrave is up to the task in the fantastically haunting ventriloquist segment. the final sequence that ties the segments together is great and a perfect ending. the golfing bit with basil radford and naunton wayne was pretty fun, but tonally it clashed with the other sequences. it was a reprieve of straight comedy in the middle of a horror film. read more

8 al morir la noche clasico britanico de historias de terror. todo un clasico, con bastante buen nivel de las historias contadas (salvo la simpatica historia de golf). algunas historias han servido de inspiración para films posteriores. pionera en este tipo de peliculas. en una lista de martin scorsese de las peliculas que mas le aterrorizaron estaba esta junto a estas otras: 1. la casa encantada 2. la isla de los muertos (val lewton) 3. los intrusos (1944) 4. el ente 5. al morir la noche. 6. al final de la escalera 7. el resplandor 8. el exorcista 9. la noche del demonio 10. suspense 11.... read more

one of the stories was just "girl sees ghost," and it took me a while to get back on board after that. massively saved by the last story and the frame story (and its ending). also the whole fred hoyle thing. read more
