if you know what is going on in the title sequence, then you essentially know what the entire movie is. however, if you only suspected (like me), then you'll have to figure it out from the hints they give in the first... 15 minutes. i see a lot of people writing here that they found the whole thing confusing and had no idea what was going on or what it meant. i have no idea how that could be since, unlike many similar genre films, the main characters do the smartest, most-obvious things they could to figure out the situation right at the very start. no b.s. contrived plot excuses here. i'll... read more

This is a very well-acted film with a premise that would have been interesting for a much shorter story, but drags heavily over the long run time. More importantly though, this is a film that will leave you wanting to scream at the characters for their utterly inexplicable behavior. Obviously if they did not behave so irrationally the story would no longer function, so the film had to show us characters behaving bizarrely, but that doesn't really make it any better. It is difficult to imagine humans behaving the way they do in this film, and the incredibly unclear timeline doesn't help.... read more

This is a very hard movie to review as I could sort of see what the director was trying to do but to me it was just too weird. The story about a couple trapped in a housing estate seems original and visually the movie is quite stunning. The two main leads are pretty good and there is certainly a few surprises along the way. I would be interested to see some of Director Lorcan Finnegan's other work. read more

So much potential. Another example of a movie being padded. Would be a good 45 minute Twilight Zone episode (original, not the woke joke TZ of today) the movie ends abrupbtly without solid answers. Reminded me of Stephen King, better starter than a finisher. read more

Every so often a movie comes along that is so gobsmackingly unique and original that its difficult to establish whether its this, or the film itself that draws you in right until the usually implausible ending these tend to have. Vivarium is one such film, for me the last time I felt this way was upon viewing The Lobster. Whilst this may not quite be *that* far out, Vivarium manages surreal with aplomb, not least because of the performance of the quirky Jesse Eisenberg who appears to be made for roles such as this.
