Review of Charlie's Angels

boring-arse plot. weak villain that was not believable. the plot twists nearly put me to sleep. a heist scene that involves 3 characters simply wearing the same disguise... yeah, this was not good. rarely the humour is charming, most was bleh, laughed out loud only twice. patrick stewart and elizabeth banks both phone it in. kristen stewart as the upbeat character is definitely the highlight, although only half of her material lands right. the other two leads are fine. ella balinska as the straight-(wo)man believably breaks down in tears in one scene, but it's tonally out-of-place and awkward considering what surrounds it. naomi scott is serviceable as the "hacker" & team-newbie, but sometimes annoying or lame during action. which leads me to my primary criticism... the action sucks. like really bad - shot, edited and choreographed - all bad. i was literally rewinding portions trying to figure out what was even happening, characters were teleporting and performing multiple nonsensical moves within half-second jump-cuts. a couple minor but garish green-screen moments sprinkled in for flavour. additionally, it's like the car chases were strategically engineered to have no impact. the camera is consistently placed in the wrong spot. possibly the worst car chase i've ever seen. i've seen a couple people say the action is good, needless to say this boggles my mind, and my valuation of their opinions on action has plummeted. watch it for kristen only.
