if you're like me then you're going to hate how suspenseful the chaser is. i knew going in that this was a thriller and it certainly was but what i didn't know is that at its core this is a true horror. it gave me silence of the lamb vibes and, well, it won't make you feel suuuper great. the lead actor plays the anti hero impeccably. he's despicable, but you can't help rooting for him knowing what's on the line. read more

Nothing makes me feel like shit like a Korean crime movie. I mean that in a good way, of course. It's probably not evident from what I've been logging since I joined Letterboxd a couple months ago, but my love for crime movies (and, for that matter, crime fiction in general) is probably only outstripped by my love for horror. Korea, in particular, seems to have a way with the crime thriller that few can match for brutality and that I-need-to-take-a-shower-feeling you have when it's all over. South Korean made films are generally very good and this one is no exception. Na Hong-jin has directed here and crafted the film into an edgy thriller. Lead actors Kim Yoon-seok and Ha Jung-woo plays their characters well on opposite sides. I was a little disappointed with the ending but no spoilers here. Interesting to note this has at least 2 other remakes. read more

Never have I ever felt this angry at a movie and it's characters. It's a good movie, but it's hard to call it fun when it gets your BP high like that. Also, the opening 20 mins are absolutely fantastic. overall, It's a cross between Saw, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and a Korean revenge flick. read more
