FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU...... I mean, OK, I never liked Mortal Kombat franchise. It's hard to argue with the fact that those games were, like, a cultural phenomenon back in the days and it's impossible to think of nineties without thinking about them. Like it's hard to imagine eighties without Ninja Turtles, for example. And yet... those were pretty bad games. Presentation was great, everybody enjoyed blood and gore and it was fun to just... you know, stick around those coin-op machines and watch people doing “fatalities”. Kids love violence. And, despite what some stupid people say, the... read more Was this review helpful to you?

okay so the effects were cool and the action was pleasantly gorey, but the movie was just very anticlimactic. i thought they were building up to, ya know, mortal kombat, but then they didn't and the movie was over. however, "i have risen from hell to kill you" was a fucking badass line holy hell. read

man, compared to the 90s version this feels like a got-epic origin story for something big compared to a cheap video game cutscene. it may be cheesy, it may be nerdshit but i kinda liked it. the same way i would have loved to see a 2nd or 3rd warcraft movie two years ago as the one we got was clearly just the prologue to a bigger idea. the same thing here...feels like there is more to come (and i kind of look forward to it)... read

a video game adaptation generally doesn't end well. still, i watch them every time, hoping that this time it will be a lot better. for example, after seeing the trailer for the new mortal kombat, i was quite excited. as someone who played the games way back in the day, it looked like a good movie adaptation of a game was finally out. an over-the-top film adaptation of the game was released in 1995. it didn't really stand the test of time. also, after seeing jiu jitsu with nicolas cage, i lost my faith in martial arts films for a while. the new mortal kombat movie isn't that bad at all. of read

i will not deny i had a lot of fun with this one, i really did- i swear. but... that doesn't make it good. it pales in comparison to the 1995 film because at least that movie was simple, straightforward, and embraced its silliness. i would trade in all this new r-rated gore and foul-mouthed swearing for the banging 90's soundtrack and a better sense of humor. but ultimately? mortal kombat 2021 suffers from a messy narrative and a critical identity crisis. when the main title finally fades in, about 12 minutes in, i found myself already missing the original movie. the entire franchise is read

so i've never really played a mortal kombat game, i only recognize a few characters and finishers. i ended up watching this with a mortal kombat buddy who knows what's up, and he filled me in on some details and easter eggs i would've missed. i actually really enjoyed this, i expected it to be just a flashy fighting movie with some references here and there, but it actually went all-in with the finishers, moves, costumes, and lore mostly. the fights were really cool to watch. the story was the weak spot here, boiled down to "hey, we gotta fight the evil dudes in mortal kombat, but believe in... read

well, the story of this movie is too simple and bad. the only good characters in this movie is scorpion and sub-zero, the others are too bad, i didnt like the new main character, the fights are not cool at all, again the only fight i think is ok is sub-zero and scorpion fights. the acting in this movie was not good. read

this being the first in the franchise that i've felt compelled to watch was a loopy fruit basket. ridiculous on so many levels, yet strangely enjoyable. one of those rare apples which falls under that "so bad it's good" umbrella, although i'm sure isaac newton would be confused by the physics of it all. read

I admit, I have a soft spot for the original Mortal Kombat film from 1995. I watched it all the time as a kid and loved it. Even now, it's one of my guilty pleasures, yes, I know it's pretty bad but I can still enjoy it. Therefore, I was quietly looking forward to this new remake. In the end though, it was disappointing.
It starts relatively well. The opening couple of martial scenes are very good, well choreographed and suitably gory (it's a Mortal Kombat film, it has to be gory right?). However, after that, it devolves into eye rolling clichés, bad acting and a story that's just plain read

My quick rating - 6;3/10. There are some movies that are clearly going to appeal to a certain audience. This is a great example since if you are unfamiliar with the game and its "universe" than this movie will be nothing more than a martial arts fest with some special effects thrown in. Oh; well; that is exactly what it is anyways. So writing unbiased; and not as a fan; this is a story about a MMA fighter who has to team up with some of the greatest fighters to save Earth from the evil outworld attackers. Strangely; this movie does a very good job of the stories that are involved with sub read

I didn't watch this expecting it to be "good" or "not terrible" but there are some genuinely fun moments when it allows itself to be stupid and not dead serious. As someone who doesn't know or care about the MK games' lore, I didn't understand what the rules of the tournament were and I don't think there even was a tournament in this (??), but there is a scene where a guy gets stabbed with his own frozen blood. That made me go "haha what the fuck" with a smile on my face, a perfect example of stupid in a fun way in contrast to the rest of the movie, which tries to be very serious and gritty... read

If you like mortal kombat you will enjoy this movie. If you like good cinema you probably won't. This movies plot and dialogue are about as basic as the game itself, but come on did you really expect mortal kombat to be a plot or dialogue driven film? This movie accomplishes what it and the games set out to do, wow viewers with bloody, gorey fights. There's not much more you need from it. read

The third film from the bloodthirsty videogame franchise sees our Earthrealm protagonists once again at war with Outworld, with victory in Mortal Kombat for Shang Tsung's warriors meaning that our planet would be considered as conquered by the dark realm. Cole Young is a MMA fighter who has been stamped with the distinctive 'dragon' mark, and along with leader Raiden, Sonja Blade, Jax and the obnoxious (but by some distance the best character) mercenary Kano, they set out to defeat Outworld. Probably the movie would have been better if it actually featured a 'Mortal Kombat' tournament instead... read
