cannibal corpse fans will like this film lmao. in all seriousness though, i wanted to like this film, i really did. the opening sequence with king crimson in the background was really well done. this was a film tailor-made for nic cage - and he does not disappoint; both red and mandy's characters are developed nicely. so where did it go wrong? a lot of it has to do with the unnecessarily slow pacing, the weird (although dazzling at times) aesthetic and trash antagonist(s). they are retarded, speak gibberish (i get that is the point but its laughably overdone) and are easily overpowered in the... read more

this movie is something else! it's like a crazy mixture of evil dead and mad max. nicolas cage is badass in the lead, jóhann jóhannsson's score is captivating, and panos cosmatos' direction is superb. i especially liked the look of the movie with it's main colors, red and blue, ...and cheddar goblin! read more

i watch this movie for one good reason and that is cage, in addition to that people say that this movie is quite good. but it's a slow-burn film if you anticipating when can we get classic nicolas cage. where he acts crazy and cry at the same time, you just have to wait at the 60 min mark. he did that in a comfort room. the cinematography of this film is good, there is a lot of good shots taken from this film. the score was also good and it matches the theme of this film(metal horror movie). this is a movie where cage will shine and do his crazy antics. secretly i want to have that ax made by... read more

i was expecting schlock but i think i could make the argument that this film actually is art??? aliah said she loved it but "there were just times when i had to stop and be like wait what?" and i responded "i mean yeah it was definitely going for that. isn't there plenty of high art you could say that about? tartovsky movies for example. i'm not positive this dude's on a level with tartovsky but i'm not entirely positve he's not, either", and then the next day i saw that a professional nyt/ebert critic (glenn kenny) called this movie "pulp tartovsky" in a tweet so, as far as i'm concerned,... read more
