there's varying levels of sexism, racism and homophobia in this film and i can't decide if it was poorly judged or just a product of the 80's. fuck me, there's a scene where someone pretends to be someone else and, technically, sexually assaults someone. i never really felt that this massive rivalry ever actually started. there was some undeserved shitty behaviour from the alpha betas and then a low prank from the tri-lambdas and that was it. suddenly that was enough for them full rivals. warning; contains a horrible, horrible "music" performance. read

this comedy just doesn't work in so many ways. it got a couple chuckles, but most of the jokes fall flat and it really hasn't aged well. every character is a one note stereotype that range from not really funny to downright offensive. their "pranks" range from destructive and mean-spirited to outright rape, but it's okay because she liked it i guess? it's really fucked up. i thought they were going in the direction of not labeling people nerds or jocks because we all have more in common than surface differences. but no, the takeaway is that nerds are better than jocks and women are largely... read

anything that could be seen as offensive in this day and age just feels quaint because this has its heart in the right place. it's all about acceptance and defying oppression. plus this is the closest any non-scifi movie could come to a live-action day of the tentacle adaptation and that game rules very much. read
