the first sharknado took itself to seriosly. the second one knew what it was but it wasn't until the third one where it really hit its stride. along with the fourth the two sequels have to be some of the best bad movies of all time or at the very least the two best movies ever made my asylum.
so i was stoked for global swarming; i just had such a good time with the last two that i couldn't be any more excited. and it starts off pretty damn well (in that sharknado self aware hilarious fashion. but then it takes a serious misstep which ends up making this the second worst of the series. an actual bad movie and worst off all making me least excited for the inevitable part 6.
that misstep i mentioned is the 'riding the tornado' or more accurately the being able to jump inside a tornado and survive, it works for gil, as he has a helmet on that protects him from sharknado's, but fin and the rest shouldn't be able to do this. and i know i am nitpicking a movie series that is extremely ridiculous but this illogical thing went to far and the movie spent way to much time repeating these scenes and inside the tornado.
there are positives to the film (positives in a sharknado sense that is) that work for the film. the first 15 minutes are great, with actual decent cinematography and decent effects and ian ziering doing a great indiana jones riff.
**spoilers up next** spoilers up next** spoilers up next**
same goes for the last 15 minutes when suddenly everyone starts to die and the whole world is pretty much destroyed and fin is the only one left alive and then time travel is introduced by none other than dolph lundgren.
**end of spoilers** end of spolers**end of spoliers**
basically this here part 5 is as good as you want it to be when it's funny, action packed and utterly absurd. ziering kills it, all the cast are actually half decent and tara reed seems to finally of embraced the fact that she can't act at all. half this movie is as good as part 2 (nothing ever hits as good as part 3 or 4 but some things do come close) but the other half (at least it feels like half) 'inside the tornado' just comes off as stupid, even for a sharknado movie, and dare i say it, even boring.
i lied at the beginning though, i'm still ready and willing and very excited for part 6.
