i'm normally a sucker for tennessee williams style play adaptations, but this one didn't quite hit. it goes after some big, hot button issues, but the execution isn't particularly clean. the dialogue isn't quite as sharp as it needs to be to capably handle the big issues it can't quite say. liz taylor is outstanding and hepburn and mccambridge are quite good as well. surprisingly, clift does not give a good performance. he is stiff and wooden and brings nothing to a rather shallow role.
