this movie came out the year my dad died, i cannot tell you the amount of times i watched it growing up but i haven't seen it in quite some time because it absolutely destroys me emotionally. i decided tonight to watch it as an adult to pick up on the things i missed and see how my perspectives have changed. this movie is really special to me because it so accurately captured my experience with grief as a child- the confusion, the anger, the desperate need for control and being forced to grow up and comfort the adults who are supposed to be there for you. watching it now i see so much of myself in molly, who can't seem to move on from the past, stuck in old and childish habits and unable to let go. i don't know where i'm going with this review, i just think this movie is made for people like me, who have lived their lives grieving and need to see themselves in something and know they're not alone in it.
