this is really a film about ptsd and how it can impact people besides just soldiers. marie colvin was a adrenaline junkie war correspondent that saw the value in her work as more important than her own well being. it is very similar to the hurt locker in that respect. i had never heard of marie colvin before this, so i have to wonder if her work really had the impact she hoped it did and if it was really worth the toll it took on her. rosamund pike gives a very strong performance, but the effort is apparent. she really has found her niche with these high effort roles playing damaged women read

Technically this review will contain a spoiler, although if you know who/what the film is about you already know this fact. This film is the poorly told story of a trust-fund-liberal professional war tourist who gets herself and her coworkers killed through persistently reckless behavior and repeatedly poor decision making. (It is something of a miracle it hadn't happened sooner.) After her death her trust-fund-liberal friends made this film lionizing her for said behavior.
