Batman: Ninja might just be a hardcore otaku's dream-come-true-- or it could just be a clichè, random mash-up with strange visuals

Review of Batman Ninja

Story: 3

If you're looking for a Batman movie with amazing twists and jaw-dropping reveals, this isn't it.

Before I begin, let me state that I missed a little part of the film (not much, it was the part where a certain someone explains how he fooled a certain someone else into thinking something that wasn't true (the explanation had something to do with Posion Ivy's plants (hopefully you people who actually watched the film understood my code))), and that I watched it in its English dubbed format,

Now, let me state something else: this movie should not be watched for its story. It wasn't very well crafted nor very well executed. People who buy this flick should buy it for the...

Visuals: 7

Strange and very anime-influenced visuals.

The 3D+2D mix of animation was quite strange. Most of the film's visuals, especially the action sequences, relied on 3D graphics, making the film resemble a Naruto video game brawler. Whether you like it or not depends on your tastes.

Being set in Japan, there's bound to be a bunch of anime references. There're ninjas and ninjutsu and samurai and giant morphing mecha robots and tiny, cute, smart animals-- and even a sumo wrestler Bane.

Again, whether you enjoy it or not depends on you.

Sound: 7

The dub voice actors didn't do a half bad job-- but I can't say that this is an audio masterpiece. Then again, I'm not exactly an expert in that area.

As I wrote above, the dubbers and sound editors did fine-- though the lack of lip-sync was strange. Perhaps this sounds much better in its Japanese form, though I don't really plan in re-watching.

Character: 5

Not too much depth here.

This Batman cast isn't much different from others-- you can find the good old clichés here, taken from other Batman and anime stories.

Enjoyment: 6

This was a pretty weird and shallow movie, lacking a strong story and solid character development-- yet it gets a 6/10.

Perhaps it's the otaku in me. Perhaps I was in some way delighted to see Batman partake in the strange universe of anime, fighting alongside ninja and samurai.

And perhaps its the other part of me that desires a good story that prevents me from giving it any higher.
