Let's just admit it. Deep inside? We all knew that this movie won't be any good. Every flag for a bad movie? This one had it. Every single one of them. Long before the release. The MCU is at the very tough spot at this point with no new direction to follow yet, having a backstory movie for Widow felt way too forced after the main story arc ended in Endgame, having the entire movie revolving around Scarlett Johansson, the actress with only one expression (Lucy, Avengers, Ghost in the Shell, find a bloody difference), didn't look promising at all, while... well... you know how it usually is... read more

this wasnt a great film but it was very fun. the cgi isnt great, the plot isnt overly strong, but florence pugh and david harbour are so good in every scene theyre in, you can overlook it. excellent dialogue, perfect line reads, perfect casting for their roles. the fight choreography is sometimes great and sometimes too silly, very hit or miss. for a story about black widow, she gets overshadowed a lot. read more

I have loved Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow since the classic interrogation scene in Iron Man 2. Have looked forward to seeing this. Unfortunately it does not live up to the hyped-up expectations. The set-up is long and drawn out in a protracted opening where nothing happens until an explosion and a fight over the ‘magic potion McGuffin’.

The strongest feature of the movie is the introduction of Florence Pugh as the pseudo-sister. Although for the life of me I cannot understand the fight when they first meet. Pugh’s poking at Widow is relentless especially with the running ‘poser’... read more

i really liked this? definitely didn't exped to enjoy it as much as i did. it had a very welcome '90s throwback vibe until it inevitably becomes big marvel movie™. which, y'know, is also fine. but it trades moody spy aesthetic for an almost avengers-sized finale. far be it from me be mad at a thing for doing what it says 'on the tin'. i personally felt that the movie was thoroughly entertaining when it leaned into its humor and its emotional core. i even liked taskmaster. i don't have too many complaints actually, but take it as damning with faint praise when i say that ultimately the movie... read more

this one is probably the most similar to the winter soldier, it starts as a spy movie but then evolves to the classic marvel superhero formula. i also think the broken family dynamic actually worked really well, with lots of good and funny moments with our main cast. also just like some other marvel movies, the villains don't really work well. taskmaster is underused, and we only interact with dreykov for a small amount of time, and he came off as just another generic baddie who controls the world. read more

a nice throwback to when marvel studios movies were about telling a story faithful to the character first. a movie that has undeniably come too late, but was smartly and thankfully saved for a big theater release where it belongs. the humor is hit or miss for me, and sudden tone shifts, i'm not super invested in the mcu so i don't feel like i needed to see it, but if you are into the universe you'll watch this anyway, for anyone else, it's a okay blockbuster and david harbour is pretty damn funny, he do be looking rough after stranger things season 3 though. this is such a bollywood movie in all the right ways. indie dysfunctional family drama with all the summer blockbuster seasoning to cover it up. i can see also the parallels people are making with the f&f franchise, which took four or five films to finally figure out that it's the family aspect that people connect to. great action, a little shoddy with the cgi at points, but forgivable just for being a fun ride. one of the better more grounded standalone mcu films, which seems long overdue and yet not dated. although it's no masterpiece, i'd watch it again. read more

Black Widow is an amazing story with brilliant action & characters, but is ruined by the villain and horrible CGI. Yelena is the best character by far in this film as you get to see how she suffered during her time in the Red Room with her sister (Natasha) abandoning her. She also is the character that changes the most during this movie. The post-credits scene is building on a certain characters story in the MCU and one hint I can give you is that its involved with Natashas death in Endgame in some way. read more

After such a long wait, I was so ready to sit down and watch a Marvel movie. Big screen, big snacks, big audience, big hype. And I was NOT disappointed. The movie felt to me Idk.. pointless, not just in the grand scheme of the Marvel Universe but also as a stand-alone movie. Like they picked a scraped idea for a 'Black Widow' movie back from a discarded pile and gave it a go. Natasha's history isn't explored as much as I'd hoped, the not-family-family didn't groove right with me, the widow network wasn't introduced in an acceptably cool/interesting way. Got a bit of a Jason Bourne vibe from some parts of the beginning which I was into but looks a lot more like a Marvel film in the final act which if you ask me is the worst place to look like a Marvel film, that being said it still worked for me despite all the hokey accents and the constant namedropping of The Avengers™️ and/or the term "Avenger" ©️. Don't have much to say so I'll drop some points. - Compared to another mid action movie in a similar vein, Gemini Man, Black Widow's setpieces have punchier impact, but basically no understanding of how to make action flow. The cowards should have got Ang Lee to do this. - Scarlett Johannsson's Black Widow was always my favorite Avenger because she was one of the only actors willing or able to have her ass kicked or show fear. With an incredibly talented cast this movie pulls off one of the most fun action movies I have seen. This is definitely Disney's Bourne movie. Incredible fight choreography and action sequences and great moments of heart. The biggest issues I had with this film were some questionable cinematography during the action sequences on the sky station and the fact that Pugh outshines the main character and that Black widow seemed to not be the focus of the film read more

Given that development of Black Widow was said to have begun way back in 2004, it must be a watershed moment for director Cate Shortland to finally see the release of the 24th movie in the MCU series. im just disappointed this movie didnt come out a year ago. or three. pre-infinity war would have been much better. that being said, as an individual film it was excellently choreographed and paced, with brutal action straight out of winter soldier. and come on, who didnt miss those giant location titles from civil war ? glad we got to see it in theaters, phase 4 is bouta be balls to the wall insane. read more
