Darkman II: The Return of Durant

i remember, even as a kid, thinking darkman was fun but underwhelming 'cause i didn't have the proper background to place him other than kind of a lame superhero, while it's very much a comic book take on the universal monster format. i'm glad that's finally clicked for me, because it's a pretty unique thing. almost like the anomaly that are these direct-to-video sequels. this was like, good? i mean it's majorly riding on the coattails of the original but the fact that this exists, a comic book sequel on a budget that is tonally on the money, it kind of makes you appreciate the fact nowadays... read more

The direct to video sequel gives you even less to enjoy. It plays like it has the quality of a nineties TV movie. They replaced everyone but Larry Drake. It's a typical drop in quality after Raimi's work in the first with the added fun of a lower budget. The abandoned factories are so abundant I'm surprised they didn't have a sign for the Jokers factory. read more
