Review of The Final Destination

i was wrong. this is the worst movie in the franchise, not 2... and i haven't even rewatched 5 yet. this was bad. very very bad. yeah it had some fun gore, some fun 3d and some convoluted set up for death scenes but it was pretty bad on every level. the funny thing is, i don't remember this being that bad. i remember thinking it wasn't great but it was pretty fun in the theatre. at least i think it was. i can't remember although as i type this i am remembering that i didn't like it very much. what's so bad you say? gore, deaths, young hotties in panties, nice set ups, final destination? what more do you want? well how about a story, at least a semblance of story with some character development and growth. here you get a cavalcade of stock characters who you could care less about and never do anything but generic things and they say even more generic dialogue and you could care less about any of them at all . you meet them and then they die. that's as much story as they get. all except bubba of bubba shrimp co. fae who you actually get a small story for and he subsequently feel for. then there is the fact that the deaths are way over the top. too over the top. so ever the top they feels stupid and unrealistic. and just like part 2, there are these convoluted set ups that go nowhere and have nothing to do with the death itself. that alone drove me crazy! or how about that the movie is neither scary nor eerie nor moody. it goes for comedy a lot and it mostly fails. it's never that funny and it is never scary; t just is. or howabouts the fact that the premonitions are no longer premonitions or omens but puzzle mystery's that have to be solved. they felt less like final destination premonitions and more like they belonged in another movie. and the cop out fake out near the end. lame. and the lack of tony todd. even lamer. or that death skipped husband and kids? and that a lot of the fake set up was ripped off from the first movie. watching this the 82 minutes it takes to do so couldn't be longer. it's over the top to a degree that takes away its fun. there are moments of gore and one set of tits. for this movie to have worked the gore and nudity needed to be as over the top os the film. then the comedy, the gore, the nudity and everything would play funnier, scarier and just better. in the end, the [not so] final destination basically uses everything that didn't work in the previous films and discards everything else. it's a real shame because up until this film, this was a very solid horror series. i guess it's true what they say: they can't all be winners. production design: 7 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 3 out of 10 originality: 3 out of 10 costumes: 7 out of 10 directing: 4 out of 10 editing: 6 out of 10 acting: 5 out of 10 music: 6 out of 10 script: 3 out of 10 50/100
