yaifmr: this one wasn't a sleeper-hit, it was merely a "sleeper". all the dark reimagining of 'hoodie folklore in recent years cannot hold a candle to mel brook's "men in tights" comedic masterpiece, and the last tolerable sherwood fable was "prince of thieves" ages ago, but maybe that was helped by bryan adam's singing rather than costner's acting. :) read

a film with three different storylines meshed into one single movie. i was convoluted at the beginning, from the get-go we start with these different stories and subplots that i didn't understand and pretend that i followed the flow of the story. the story feels empty and the script is a snafu mess. i applaud the people who did the script and the studio who thinks that this film deserves its 180mins runtime. the movie is not about robin hood, but from time to time they remind us that it's still a robin hood movie. especially at the end. man, that climax was hilarious seeing those untrained... read

there are people who will balk at ridley scott's take on the tale of robin hood, declaring that it is not a story of the famous outlaw and his merry men. after all, he isn't even called "robin of the hood" until the end of the film. however, those people are missing the point of scott's film, which is to tell the story of how a man could become robin hood and what happens in countries of strife that create such heroes. with an excellent performance by cate blanchett and russell crowe—the latter of whom seems to do his best work under scott's direction—and strong supporting performances by... read
