can i be any more infatuated with kristen wiig? i think not. she's a sexy looking girl next type with some serious shiksapeal. she can sing, she can dance, she can act and she is damn funny. this makes her even sexier. plus she seems like she'd be awesome to hang around, she would be a great friend and she would always be the bright spot in any room...
let's talk about whip it though...
whip it is drew barrymore's directorial debut. besides a few pacing issues it is a solid first feature that is engaging, funny, sweet and exciting. it's got a great cast, fantastic music and a solid story.
the story is a traditional story of teenage rebellion and a traditional story of a losing sports team that learns to perform better and vies for the winning cup. it's not the most original story but it does have original characters, great dialogue and funny lines. it keeps you entertained and the last 30 minutes sure are exciting.
our lead is played by ellen page (who is so nova scotia, canada it hurts) who is just great. she is also really cute, really sexy and really loveable. she needs to be in more things. then you have wiig who you can't help but love, marcia gay harden who is awesome, drew barrymore who is great in a very drew barrymore kind of way, the always wonderful juliette lewis, maybe from arrested development and a long missing from the screen and a welcome return to the scree by the great wonder boy daniel stern.
the film looks really good to with crisp clean cinematography and lush colours. the music works really well with the look and story and makes the film even more enjoyable. in fact the music almost covers up the fact that the film is perhaps 20 minutes too long and as such it tends to drag a fw times. but as i said, the music almost covers it up.
page! wiig! stern! everyone else ! the music! the look! all of that takes what could of been a geeric roler derby flick and elevates it to a much better picture. way to go drew barrymore.
by the way, did i mention kristen wiig yet
