Legion

there was a lot of potential in a film like legion, which at its surface brings to mind images of films like the prophecy. where that film was cool, creepy and deep, scott stewart's big-studio directorial debut manages only one of those, and even that only in spurts. the action horror film tries to stand tall, but falters thanks to a decidedly weak story, poor dialogue, special effects that only vaguely impress and a cast that takes themselves far too seriously. while it could have been a lot of fun, the film has the ignominious honor of being the one of the worst films of 2010. read more

i don't get why people dislike this so severely. like, at worst it's kind of underwhelming and could actually use more action and blockbuster set pieces, but it's not the dumpster fire many have made it out to be. it's alright and worth a watch for paul bettany as an angel, dual wielding big guns and mowing down possessed baddies. legion's worst crime is wasted potential, but on its own merits it's bolstered by a host of very good performances and an intriguing premise. in stark contrast to some other stinkers from around the same time, i can say that at least legion is never boring. a decent... read more
