what a disappointment. the opening train heist is a decent sequence, but none of the rest of it works. john wayne is kind of sleepwalking through the film and the rest of the cast are limited performers who give mostly awkward, stunted performances. the attempts to insert some comedy, mostly by way of jack elam, universally miss, but they are preferable to the times everything just kind of stops to drool over the three women, all of whom look like models. this generic western story with uneven pacing and john wayne wandering aimlessly through it is not unprecedented. what is surprising is read more
