Eye of the Tiger

for the most part this was a pretty straight-faced, leisurely paced revenge movie, but then the final act kicks into high gear as gary busey shoves a stick of dynamite in a guy's butt, and drives off with his battle truck to the blaring of survivor's eye of the tiger (what, you think that song wasn't gonna be in this?). at which point two things happened: it became impossible for me to take this movie seriously, and i bumped it up a star. i was shaking my damn head in delight seeing busey & kotto respectively drive and fly around, bombarding the bad guys' max max-esque camp with grenades &... read more

there's now two movies that i will forever associate with survivor's eye of the tiger. this is one of them. this flick isn't anything outrageously special, but damn if it doesn't do what it sets out to do with gusto and aplomb. gary busy is incredibly affable as an action hero. the movie has a strong walking tall vibe, and busey shoulders that role with ease. he's the 'nam vet, broad shouldered, shotgun toting, family guy who just wants to live in peace in the town he grew up in. of course, we know, that's not gonna be so easy. explosions, punching, shooting, and car chases galore. really read more
