My quick rating - 5;3/10. Another nicely polished Netflix movie this time taking hypnosis and ramps up what can be done with it. In this case; a manipulative psychiatrist is using hypnotherapy to induce basically anything he wants into his patients. Ok; I'll digress a bit. At a get-together to try and get Kate Siegels character; Jenn; a bit of relaxation and her mind off of a tragic miscarriage she is introduced to our wonderful psych. Kind of liked the initial rug pull of the "dad hunts for missing daughter" trope turning out to be a red herring but it just gets eventually replaced by a "dad proctects his daughter at all costs" rug. I did briefly wonder if the hypnotic "construct" revealing itself to be everything Ben Affleck sees despite being a bit of scaffolding in reality was a bit of a comment about CGI in filmmaking or something but it was probably just some half-baked idea. The Great Value Inception. It's not as bad as they made it out to be, so I guess my expectations were low. It's basically like the Firestarter story. A government organization has 2 people with powers make a kid that they want to use as a weapon. In that movie the dad was a telepath in this one that's the power they all have. It's predictable and has no real punch. I guess if you've never seen Firestarter this might be newish to you. read more
